H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, chaired the; first meeting of the Board of Trustees of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD) - the training arm of the Ministry - during 2022 in its capacity as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees. The meeting that took place via video conferencing feature was attended by Dr. Sherifa Sharif, Executive Director of the Institute, and all members of the Board of Trustees.
During the meeting, Dr. Hala El-Said said that the effective and distinguished role played by the institute comes in light of the implementation of the sustainable development agenda "Egypt Vision 2030". El-Said indicated that NIGSD has adopted a new approach based on the expansion of training partnerships with the most prestigious regional and international institutes and institutions working in this field, in addition to working to develop its services by taking advantage of technological progress and keeping pace with the latest management methods and sciences.During the meeting, Dr. Sharifa Sherif reviewed the activities of NIGSD in training and human capacity development.Sherif indicated that the institute had recently concluded two twinning agreements with the National Institute of Public Administration (INAP) in Spain, and the Hertie School of Governance in Germany; this is in the areas of capacity development, training, research, and advisory activities.Sherif said that the total number of trainees in the institute's capacity building and development programs 2020-2021 amounted to 40,500 trainees, and the number of training programs reached 576, including 17 programs that were implemented outside the Republic, with a total number of training hours that amounted to more than 16,000 hours.


Concerning the most important programs offered by NIGSD; Dr. Sherifa Sherif said that the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development offers a variety of training programs at the local level and on the African continent as well.
 Sherif referred to the Egyptian Women's Leadership Program, in which the number of trainees reached 3,873 women representing 12 governorates. Sherif confirmed that the institute aims to cover the 27 governorates during 2022, and the "She is for a Digital Future" program was presented to train women on computer principles to bridge the digital gender gap.At the level of the African continent; The Executive Director of NIGSD referred to the African Women Leaders Program, the first version of which was implemented and trained 100 women leaders from 35 African countries, and the second version, which was conducted online to train 112 women from 37 African countries.On initiatives and mechanisms to raise awareness of sustainable development, Egypt's Vision 2030 and governance, Dr. Sherifa Sherif explained that the "Be an Ambassador" initiative was held to spread awareness of sustainable development, noting that about 1,100 young men and women were trained during 2020-2021. This is in addition to training several private sector personnel and media professionals, and the goal is to train about 500 government sector leaders during 2022. She also referred to the Sustainable Innovation Lab as the first laboratory of its kind in the Middle East and Africa, which is being carried out in cooperation with the Cairo University Business Incubator to incubate innovations and emerge projects that work to achieve sustainable development goals.Sherif explained that the institute believes in the value of exchanging experiences with international institutions and benefiting from the experiences of leading countries in the areas of management and governance and upgrading the level of employees in the administrative apparatus.




 Sherif indicated that some memoranda of understanding were signed with distinguished local and international institutions to design and implement training programs, which amounted to 22 new partnerships during 2021.
