H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, met with Mr. Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), during her participation in the activities of the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum “Davos”, held from 19 to 23 January under the theme “Spirit of Dialogue”, with the participation of a select group of leaders from governments, the business sector, and civil society, alongside a number of heads of state and senior executives of global economic institutions.

During the meeting, H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat expressed the Arab Republic of Egypt’s appreciation for the strong and evolving partnership with the OECD, which is embodied in both Egypt’s Country Programme with the Organisation and the OECD–Middle East and North Africa Initiative on Governance and Competitiveness for Development. She affirmed the depth of this cooperation, which reflects a shared commitment to promoting evidence-based policymaking, supporting institutional reform, and achieving sustainable development, in addition to benefiting from international expertise in strengthening economic and institutional reform policies, and supporting the government’s efforts in implementing the national structural reform programme.

She also expressed her appreciation for assuming the role of Co-Chair of the OECD–Middle East and North Africa Initiative, which enables Egypt to play a prominent role in shaping regional dialogue, enhancing peer learning, and exchanging expertise in the field of policies based on tangible reform achievements. She affirmed Egypt’s keenness to guide the strategic direction of the Initiative in a manner that ensures its continued alignment with the evolving development priorities and aspirations of the region.

Al-Mashat pointed to the fruitful cooperation within the framework of the Country Programme, which was extended until June 2026, explaining that the programme represents a framework for aligning Egypt’s national development agenda with international best practices. The programme includes 35 projects across five thematic pillars, designed through a high-level participatory process, and embodies Egypt’s commitment to reform ownership and policy coherence.

With regard to recent developments in cooperation between Egypt and the OECD, H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat commended the Organisation’s efforts in supporting Egypt’s reform agenda, including the preparation of the first edition of Egypt’s Narrative for Comprehensive Development: Reforms for Growth, Jobs & Resilience, and its alignment with international best practices. She affirmed Egypt’s aspiration to benefit from the OECD’s expertise and the analytical reports issued under the Country Programme to improve the business environment and investment climate, and to create a more attractive environment for domestic and foreign investment.

H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat explained that the Country Programme continues to deliver significant added value to Egypt’s national reform agenda by providing insights aligned with the strategic objectives of Egypt Vision 2030 and the national structural reform programme. She expressed her anticipation for the upcoming launch of OECD reviews in a number of key thematic areas, most notably: strengthening national innovation policies and higher education and scientific research policies, women’s economic empowerment, enhancing port efficiency, governance of infrastructure investments, as well as strengthening agricultural policies and food security, as the Country Programme approaches its final milestones.

Al-Mashat concluded the meeting by reaffirming Egypt’s keenness to advance the strategic partnership by maximizing the benefits of Egypt’s engagement in OECD committees and continuing knowledge exchange, in a manner that ensures the cooperation remains responsive to emerging opportunities and enables Egypt to contribute to, and benefit from, global policy discussions.
