Ministers of “Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation” and “Finance” hold a coordination meeting to follow up on economic developments and discuss the pillars of Egypt’s Narrative for Economic Development
H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat,
Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, met
with Mr. Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Finance, at the Ministry’s headquarters in
the New Capital, where the two ministers discussed various joint work files
within the framework of integration among the ministries of the economic group
to enhance macroeconomic stability, as well as the pillars of Egypt’s Narrative
for Economic Development.
The two ministers discussed
remarks and amendments within the framework of the pillar related to
macroeconomic stability under the “Egypt’s Narrative for Economic Development,”
and joint coordination regarding the updated version of the chapter dedicated
to the macroeconomic stability pillar and public finance.
The Minister of Planning,
Economic Development, and International Cooperation noted that Egypt’s
Narrative for Economic Development translated the strategies of all ministries
into specific quantitative targets for 2030 to ensure the achievement of
priorities, thereby ensuring the consistency of the narrative and vision of the
Egyptian economy and reflecting the path of economic and structural reform and
integration between various national entities in order to achieve the ambitious
and agreed-upon objectives and targets.
The ministers also addressed the
importance of the program methodology and performance in strengthening the
monitoring system and evaluating performance and periodically reviewing
national, sectoral, and spatial policies and objectives, through the “Adaa”
System, and its role in reinforcing the commitment of all units to providing
all information and data that allow for monitoring and evaluating programmes,
projects, and activities, which reflects on the effectiveness of the
implemented development plans and the specified targets and ensures the
efficiency of public spending by linking allocated appropriations to the outcomes
to be achieved.
In a related context, the
Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation
highlighted the efforts undertaken by the Ministry to enhance the capacities of
specialists in governorates and ministries in order to develop capabilities and
increase efficiency with regard to the latest internationally applied planning,
monitoring and evaluation tools, as well as to strengthen national capacities
for preparing programs and performance plans and raising awareness of the
importance of results-based management in improving performance and assessing
the effectiveness of projects and policies.
The two ministers discussed
mechanisms for restructuring public debt, and international developments
regarding addressing the challenges facing developing countries associated with
the growing public debt crisis, as well as joint coordination between both
sides regarding Egypt’s hosting of the Borrowers’ Forum, which was announced by
the relevant expert group appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General
last July in Seville on the sidelines of the 4th International Conference on
Financing for Development. The ministers reaffirmed joint coordination on
regional issues related to economic development and financing for development under
the umbrella of regional and African organizations, foremost among them the
African Union, its Commission, and affiliated entities.
