H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, discusses with the Director-General of (FAO) ways to strengthen joint cooperation in food security, sustainable agricultural systems, and the progress of implementing the Organization’s Country Programming Framework in Egypt

H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, met with Dr. Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), on the sidelines of her participation in the activities of the 2025 World Food Forum (WFF), organized by FAO at its headquarters in Rome, Italy.

During the meeting, H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat affirmed the keen interest of the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt in benefiting from the successful partnership with FAO to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Egypt’s Vision 2030. She noted the Government’s aspiration to further enhance cooperation with FAO within the framework of the strong and long-standing relations between Egypt and the United Nations.

The Minister referred to the Country Programming Framework (CPF) between Egypt and FAO for the years 2023–2027, through which both sides seek to strengthen joint cooperation across various fields to achieve food security in line with national development priorities, given FAO’s role as the specialized United Nations agency responsible for food and agriculture.

H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat also reviewed the latest developments in the Egyptian economy and the efforts undertaken by the State to enhance macroeconomic stability, explaining that food security holds the utmost importance for the political leadership in Egypt. She noted that the State continues to expand agricultural land and promote sustainable agricultural systems to maximize the efficiency of resource use and preserve them for future generations.

H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat further referred to the NWFE Program (Nexus of Water, Food and Energy), the national platform implemented under the framework of the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, which includes a number of key projects in the water, food, and energy sectors. She emphasized that Egypt seeks to exchange its experiences with partner and friendly countries as part of its efforts to scale up climate investments and enhance international cooperation in this field.

The Minister also discussed South–South and triangular cooperation, highlighting the Government’s interest in strengthening collaboration with FAO to establish new partnerships that enable the exchange of experiences among countries and advance development efforts, building on successful projects previously implemented.

It is worth noting that in 2024, Egypt and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) signed the FAO Country Programming Framework for Egypt, under the umbrella of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2023–2027, in support of Egypt’s Vision 2030, its sectoral strategies, and presidential initiatives.

The new FAO Country Programming Framework for Egypt is guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 1: No Poverty, Goal 2: Zero Hunger, and Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, while its interventions extend across all 17 SDGs, in line with FAO’s four main objectives: Better Production, Better Nutrition, a Better Environment, and a Better Life.
