Al Mashat discusses efforts to expand climate action and support development in emerging countries with the President of the Inter-American Development Bank.

 

Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation emphasizes the active role of the private sector in expanding renewable energy projects.

 

Al-Mashat discusses cooperation opportunities with the Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization in light of the country’s priorities to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship.

 

H.E. Dr. Rania A.  Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, concluded her participation in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum "Davos" 2025 by holding bilateral meetings with the President of the Inter-American Development Bank, the Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), and the President of Hitachi Energy to discuss areas of joint cooperation in light of national priorities to enhance economic development and drive sustainable growth.

 

Inter-American Development Bank

 

H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat met with Mr. Alan Goldfajn, President of the Inter-American Development Bank, where the meeting discussed opportunities for joint cooperation and exploring the opportunities and challenges facing emerging economies and developing countries that dominate the discussions of the "Davos" Forum, especially in light of global economic developments. The meeting also touched on the importance of expanding climate action to drive the green transition and encourage environmentally friendly economic development, in addition to expanding national platforms that play a pivotal role in enhancing climate action and enabling countries to attract green investments.

 

 

Hitachi Energy

 

On another note, the Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation met with Mr. Andreas Schierenbeck, the CEO of Hitachi Energy, where the meeting addressed the company's projects in Egypt in the energy sector, especially its contribution to the implementation of the electricity interconnection project between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as part of the government's efforts to secure energy supplies and achieve regional integration, where H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat affirmed the active role of local and foreign private sectors in the implementation of renewable energy projects.

 

The meeting also covered the government's efforts to expand renewable energy projects and implement the Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy, and the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to increase the proportion of renewable energy in the energy mix to 42% by 2035, through a number of pillars, including the country platform "NWFE" program, which includes 10 GW of renewable energy projects to be implemented until 2028.

 

 

Digital Cooperation Organization

 

H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat met with Ms. Deemah Al-Yahya, the Founding Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) and Board Member of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, where they discussed opportunities for joint cooperation in the fields of digital economy and innovation, given their critical importance in enhancing economic sustainability and accelerating growth, in light of the priority that the Egyptian government attaches to consolidating the idea of a knowledge-based economy and encouraging entrepreneurship and innovation.

 

The Digital Cooperation Organization was established in 2020 by nine member countries to drive further collaboration through entrepreneurship, innovation, business growth, and employment in a shared digital economy. The member countries include Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Rwanda. The mission of this organization is to empower women, youth, and entrepreneurs to accelerate growth in the digital economy, achieve greater prosperity, and enhance mutual interests through collaborative digital transformation.
