Egypt’s Planning Minister approves funds for vital projects in Siwa, Alexandria, Habata

Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Hala El-Said, approved financial allocations for the implementation and completion of a number of vital projects related to the social and environmental dimensions, to a large extent in regions of Siwa , Alexandria and Habata.El-Said approved an amount of EGP 69.67 million to reinforce the plan of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy for the fiscal year 2020/2021 to implement the electrical supply works for the desalination plant at Habata Airport.El-Said also agreed to support the Ministry of Housing with an amount of EGP 80 million for the project to provide "the needs to face the rains in Alexandria Governorate," which would enable the Alexandria Governorate sewage company to start putting up works to provide some equipment and cars, which would contribute to solving the problem temporarily.The set of financial appropriations included approval to support the Ministry of Housing with an amount of EGP 15 million to implement the project to construct the final Al-Seeb line for the expansions of the bilateral treatment plant in Hubail with a capacity of 36,000 m3/day, as a safe disposal point for treated wastewater, in addition to the approval of its sovereignty supporting the investments of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in the current 2020/2021 plan with an amount of EGP 200 million to immediately start implementing the first phase of the project to develop the wells, water and drainage systems in Siwa to overcome the problem of salinity and agricultural drainage.El-Said stressed that all the approved sums come within the framework of the ministry’s keenness to respond quickly to demands and projects that serve citizens in the first place while providing the necessary support to state authorities to face challenges. She added that the amount approved for Alexandria Governorate comes in support of the governorate and its sanitation system to cope with the torrential rains and torrents as a result of the changes. The minister explained that the allocations directed to Siwa Oasis came within the framework of implementing the political leadership's directives towards developing the wells, water and drainage systems in Siwa Oasis to overcome the problem of salinity and agricultural drainage, as part of targeting the cultivation of 5,000 feddans.
